Nomination forms for Future Famer, Ammer Honoree and Bellwether Honoree candidates for the 2026 classes should be available by year’s end. Prepping now gives you plenty of time to think about someone to nominate (we are sure you have at least one name who deserves consideration) and to start researching and jotting down their accomplishments and achievements to share. Participate: Volunteer to serve on a BLF committee. Tell others about the valuable contributions BLF gives to the profession and industry. Be a part of us and participate with us. I experienced a serious brain injury that required emergency care, highly specialized procedures, and a high level of coordination. What stands out most to me now isn’t just what happened—but who showed up. I was cared for by an extraordinary team across rural and specialized healthcare settings. From the local providers who stabilized me, to the air transport team who ensured I could quickly reach the level of care I needed, to the hospital teams who managed complex interventions, and the therapists guiding my recovery—each step depended on skilled professionals working together seamlessly. Living in a rural area, I continue to have a deep appreciation for how critical those connections are, and how much expertise, speed, and judgment it takes to bridge distance and deliver lifesaving care. To every doctor, nurse, technician, pilot, and therapist involved in my care: thank you. Your expertise, your calm in critical moments, and your commitment to your patients made all the difference. You didn’t just treat a condition—you supported a person and a family through something life-altering. Recovery is ongoing. It’s not always predictable, and it requires patience and persistence. But I’m here, I’m improving, and I’m incredibly grateful. Thank you as well to my family, friends, and colleagues for the support, encouragement, and understanding. It has carried me more than you know. This experience reinforces my profound respect for healthcare teams—especially those serving rural communities—and the vital role they play every single day.
