Dr. Paul Toote I agree that collaboration is essential, but collaboration produces value only when each participant brings clearly defined knowledge to the table.
A team does not create expertise. It organizes expertise.
One of the foundations of my Self-Determination AI philosophy is that individuals must first own their learning before they can meaningfully contribute to a collective mission. If I cannot clearly articulate my knowledge, skills, and decision-making value, neither my teammates nor AI systems can effectively leverage my contribution.
The same principle applies to organizations. Data has little value without context. Teams have limited value without defined competencies. AI has limited value without knowledgeable people guiding its outcomes.
Once knowledge is understood, collaboration becomes a force multiplier. Teams can integrate expertise, challenge assumptions, solve complex problems, detect fraud, and innovate with confidence.
Ownership is not the opposite of collaboration. Ownership is what makes collaboration meaningful.
That is why Self-Determination AI begins with the ownership of learning.
