She and her husband Cliff Obrecht just launched the Global Goals Platform. It's a worldwide survey asking people one question: What goal do you most want to see achieved in your lifetime? They want answers at every level: what matters to you globally, nationally, and in your own community. They signed The Giving Pledge in 2021 and committed to donating more than 80% of their wealth. Now they're transferring a 30% stake in Canva to the Canva Foundation. But here's what I keep thinking about: Most billionaires decide where their money goes behind closed doors. Melanie is asking the world. The Canva Foundation has already donated over $80 million to causes like extreme poverty and education access. Now they want to know what communities actually care about before writing the next check. Research shows women are more likely to give to charity than men, and they give higher amounts. As women's incomes rise, so does their generosity. This is why we need more women making money. When women build wealth, they give it back. I wrote about Melanie two days ago. She was on my list of women who started before they felt ready. At 24, she didn't wait to feel qualified to start Canva. At 38, she's not waiting to give back. The same energy that built Canva is now building something bigger. If I were focusing on Global Goals, I'd personally focus my time on animals. But I'm curious about you. Chris Hernandez shared thisSlate Auto convinced people they wanted a small affordable truck. Ford quietly reminded everyone they already sold one. Slate deserves a ton of credit. They've reignited interest in compact pickups and gotten people talking about a segment many assumed Americans had outgrown. But while everyone is watching Slate... Ford is still selling the Maverick. It made me think about how often we confuse creating attention with capturing demand. Sometimes the company that gets everyone talking isn't the company that benefits the most. Sometimes the winner is the one that was already prepared. Ford saw this coming years ago. While Slate is generating headlines, Ford's Maverick has quietly become one of the company's biggest success stories. Last year alone, Ford sold more than 155,000 Mavericks, an 18% increase over the previous year. It's now America's best-selling compact pickup, and nearly 60% of Maverick buyers are new to the Ford brand. That's what I find fascinating. Ford didn't build the Maverick because someone proved there was a market. They built it because they recognized a customer everyone else had stopped building for. While the industry chased larger trucks with higher margins, Ford quietly bet that millions of people still wanted something smaller, simpler, and affordable. Today, Slate is getting the attention. Ford is getting validation.

She launched her own For Your Consideration campaign, and it worked, earning her an Emmy nomination for the role. It's not the first time she's bet on herself, either. In 2011, Allen self-submitted for a Daytime Emmy for her role in "All My Children" and took home the win. As Roxie, Allen delivered a performance that stayed with audiences long after the credits rolled, portraying the heartbreak, humanity, and quiet strength of a woman facing terminal cancer. Her nomination is a reminder that sometimes the first person who has to believe in your work is you.

Chris Hernandez liked thisChris Hernandez liked thisLast week, I was laid off from Vimeo under Bending Spoons after being told via email that my role was “redundant.” Over the past year, I had the opportunity to build demand generation programs as a solo operator, launch Vimeo’s first marketing campaigns across Latin America, partner with some incredible vendors, build campaigns I’m genuinely proud of, and work alongside some truly talented salespeople and sales engineers. This isn’t the ending I expected, and if I’m being honest, it’s especially discouraging because this isn’t my first layoff. It’s a tough market, and I know I’m far from the only one experiencing this right now. That said, I’m incredibly proud of what I accomplished with a small team and limited resources. I love building things from the ground up, figuring things out, and finding creative ways to drive growth. If you know of a team looking for a scrappy, startup-minded marketer who’s comfortable wearing a lot of hats, building programs from scratch, and partnering closely with sales, I’d be so grateful if you passed my information along.

Proximity Media founders Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, and Sev Ohanian have been working together since Ryan and Ohanian’s student days at University of Southern California’s School for Cinematic Arts. In 2018, the trio founded their production company following Ryan’s catalytic success as the writer and director of "Fruitvale Station," "Creed," and "Black Panther." Since then, the company has grown to some 20 people who work across its film, television, audio, music, and unscripted divisions. Proximity has produced a handful of feature films, documentaries, and television shows, though the record-breaking, award-winning "Sinners" is its first feature film written and directed by Ryan himself. Proximity Media's achievements come at a time when theatrical releases are under increasing threat. But with "Sinners," Proximity found a way to create not just a film but a genuine event. The film surpassed $350 million in global box office, drove audiences into IMAX theaters, and took home four Academy Awards—including for best screenplay and best actor—this past Sunday.
