Visa President Oliver Jenkyn also told me their card data shows spending in San Francisco is up 10% and climbing every month. That’s real proof our city’s comeback is gaining strength. Joyce Zhang (Gray) shared thisNobel laureate and Harvard professor Claudia Goldin helped secured the largest player compensation increase in U.S. sports history. She became an unpaid (she insisted on not receiving compensation) advisor to the Women’s National Basketball Players’ Association in its negotiations, and secured a 400% pay increase for WNBA players. So grateful there are women like Claudia Goldin advocating for other women. And so lucky to have had her as a professor and role model in college. From her NYT op-ed: “For the past year, I have worked with the Women’s National Basketball Players Association, the union for W.N.B.A. players, to consider the earnings of basketball players, and I have been surprised by what I found. The average N.B.A. player’s salary is around $10 million in the current season. That is 80 times what the average W.N.B.A. player earned (about $127,000 in salary) in the 2024 season… All these numbers suggest that the average W.N.B.A. salary should be roughly one-quarter to one-third of the average N.B.A. salary to achieve pay equity. Instead, the average W.N.B.A. salary is but a minuscule fraction — a mere 1/80th — of the average N.B.A. salary. How could that be? The most likely explanation is that the W.N.B.A. is not receiving the full value it contributes to the combined N.B.A. and W.N.B.A. enterprise revenue. N.B.A. owners claim that they lose money on the W.N.B.A., yet the recent willingness of investors to pay high sums for W.N.B.A. expansion teams suggests the opposite. In the leagues’ joint venture, management is not giving the W.N.B.A. enough credit for the attention and money its players attract.”

During my time at the IFC - International Finance Corporation, I was able to witness the work of entrepreneurs there and how transformative it was for the local economy. Visa is constantly exploring innovative programs and partnerships that help employees to live our mission, and empower people and communities around the world. Kiva envisions a more equitable world where everyone, regardless of their economic circumstances, has the opportunity to thrive. Using crowdfunded microloans as a force for good, Kiva creates a space where anyone can have a meaningful impact in someone's life, and together, we can expand financial access worldwide. By 2028, Kiva plans to have reached 10 million people and provided more than +4 billion dollars in loans to underserved communities, supporting: +4 million underbanked women +350,000 displaced people and refugees +500,000 climate-vulnerable people Visa Foundation has granted over US$1.7M to Kiva, a nonprofit, online lending platform, to help expand financial access for underserved small and micro businesses (SMBs) around the globe.

This Monday, I joined Elizabeth McGrath’s team as their new analyst, and I couldn’t be more excited to dive in. This week I’m also wrapping up my 4th and final rotation in the Visa Leadership Accelerator Program (VLA) on the Visa Device Intelligence team. I’m really grateful for the opportunity to work on such a fast-paced team in an area of the business that was totally new to me. As I think back on my time at Visa so far, I feel incredibly lucky for all the teams and people I’ve gotten to work with. I’ve learned so much along the way, from starting as a Sales Intern on the Community Accounts team to joining the VLA Program almost 2 years ago. And I just want thank the amazing managers I had the chance to work with throughout the program- Delores Terry, Katherine Sharp, Carina Chu and Diana Ziv for teaching, guiding, and mentoring me. I looked into what it would take: in-person visits, coordinating trustees, multiple trips, and gave up before I started. So the trust sat there, unfunded, for years. Today we're launching trust accounts on Mercury Personal. Most trust accounts are dead ends. You open one, park cash in it, and interact with it as little as possible because the tooling is so bad. We built ours to work the opposite way. Your trust account on Mercury Personal earns yield. You can set autotransfer rules that move money into it automatically on whatever schedule you want. It has a debit card. You can use Command to understand how your trust is growing over time: track yield, see what's moved, and take action to optimize it. Leading Global Account Management and Partnerships over the past eight years, and working with so many great customers and partners, has been one of the best experiences of my career, and I'm excited to get deeper into APAC. Warren Hayashi is retiring after an incredible 12 years building APAC from a handful of people in a small Singapore office to a 500-person team across the region. He’s leaving behind a strong team and great relationships, and I'm looking forward to building on his legacy. We'll work together to make this a seamless transition. The region is also at an exciting moment. In many ways, APAC markets are leading where commerce is heading, and I'm looking forward to helping our customers navigate. To our APAC customers and partners — I can't wait to meet or reconnect with you.
