Regina Jaslow shared thisI was playing pickleball recently and was reminded that some people can be surprisingly mean on the court. Not competitive—just unnecessarily mean. The same can happen in business. Some people seem to believe that being dismissive, highly critical, or condescending is a means to showcase their strength. To me, it says more about them as a person. When you encounter such a person, you might want to be thoughtful around whether it's a good idea to work closely with them. The reality is that one doesn't need to put others down or call people out on social media to embarrass them in order to elevate themselves in the eyes of others. In a world full of complaints, criticism, and ego, kindness can be rare especially in cutthroat industries. Civility costs nothing. Respect doesn't weaken your position. Encouragement doesn't diminish your success. Whether you're on a pickleball court, in a boardroom, or behind a keyboard, choose to be the person who lifts others up rather than tears them down. What our world needs more of are people who lead with character and kindness. What do you think?

According to McKinsey, employees spend an average of 1.8 hours every day just searching and gathering information. For highly trained professionals, that math is particularly painful, not just in time but in real per hour monetary costs. Here's what it actually looks like: - Property insurance claims adjusters searching across estimates to find matching line items instead of moving claims forward - Compliance officers searching and gathering updated regulations across multiple jurisdictions - New but experienced employees unable to perform at the level of their peers, not from lack of ability, but from lack of familiarity with where to find the relevant information they seek This isn't just a productivity issue; it's a talent management issue. When experienced professionals spend their focus on low-value tasks, the judgment calls that actually require their expertise get less attention than they deserve. This is exactly where AI creates real value. Not general ones that hallucinate answers, but domain-specific tools grounded in the right data sources so what gets surfaced is accurate and ready to act on. With these kinds of technologies, professionals can drastically increase their output and spend more time on the work that only they can do. Regina Jaslow posted thisI am officially retiring the grammar test that I previously needed to use as part of a marketing hire's job interview. Finally, I no longer need to make grammar corrections in marketing copy as any verbiage that is run through tools such as chatGPT will invariably be made grammatically correct. Admittedly, I have so cruelly (though not gleefully) subjected countless many marketing hopefuls to the anxiety-causing grammar test during an already stressful job interview process. For posterity, the highest score was 11 out of 12. Since 2005, scores have fallen steadily over time; no one scored above 5 by 2015. Most score around 2 or 3. Sad? Yes. But cry not for the candidates! I was the one who wallowed in this sadness...for years! But now, I feel a weight lifted. Do you hear it? It's angels singing...horizons opening. Everyone can now rejoice, for this test will never again be afflicted upon another human being! Going forward, the test published here is simply for laughs and entertainment: Please circle the word (if any) that is incorrect and write down the correct word. 1. The principal reason for performing this login check is to ensure new pharmacies are activated in their new accounts. 2. He waived the Union Jack flag and told the press, “We love her!’’ 3. One should be discrete when handling sensitive matters with patients so they are not embarrassed. 4. When hiring staff at any organization, it is helpful to hire people with complimentary skills so the organization can be more effective as a team. 5. The cost of living is much cheaper in Wheeling than in San Francisco or Tokyo. 6. This marquis event is extremely important in showcasing our company’s capabilities. Regina Jaslow liked thisRegina Jaslow liked thisMeta releasing a competitive coding model has me stunned I know I’ll be able to offer limited Anthropic credits and just reroute to Meta’s models after that with reasonably high limits so the coding experience isn’t interrupted. I think this is a phenomenal release and a huge win for DataExpert.io students because our proxied coding tool (you can use Claude Code without a subscription and soon much longer limits). The current product uses Anthropic API directly and non subcription credits are crazy expensive. My students in my April boot camp students burnt through $25,000 worth of Anthropic sonnet and haiku only tokens. If the bill was ten times lower then we would be phenomenal. (Sonnet 5 has felt particularly token hungry compared to 4.6). Good work here Meta you’re opening doors to AI education that I really appreciate!

The wage gap is a very big, very real problem…but closing it won’t get us all the way there either. We also need to be strategic and effective in what we do with our money once we earn it, and we must be a part of financial decision-making conversations. This is exactly why my session at Chief last week with Stephanie Fort was so much fun. We spoke about ‘what no one ever told us about our money,’ and spent an evening with brilliant women discussing how financial plans can help us achieve what we want in life. It was full-on inspirational. Nights like this remind me how much I enjoy my job. And in a heavily male-dominated industry, getting to do this with my good friend Stephanie, with some support from Megan, made it so much better. This includes consumer complaints against insurers. It's not the same as the umbrella trade name. Large insurance groups often operate dozens of underwriting companies under a single brand name, so the general umbrella name of the insurer will not be the same entities that appears in the complaint data. For example, State Farm operates under many different entities, all with different names. Each entity is assigned an NAIC company code. More education about this, in the video!

Regina Jaslow liked thisRegina Jaslow liked thisOften AI conversations focus around one question: How do we mitigate the risks? However, according to research from M.I.T. Sloan, the bigger issue is navigating the extent to which to govern while still allowing for innovation. Organizations often find themselves caught between two extremes: too little oversight creates risk; too much causes paralysis. An emerging solution to this issue is “minimum viable governance,” the least amount of governance needed to operate smoothly and safely while still prioritizing efficiency. This framework consists of four key principles: - Encouraging structural integrity by matching review processes to levels of risk - Building trust into AI structures and platforms instead of solely relying on - human-in-the-loop communication systems - Integrating governance across functional teams, including legal, compliance, risk, IT, and business teams - Recognizing the fact that moving too slowly is a risk in itself The organizations that gain the most value from AI won’t be the ones with the most amount of governance, but the organizations that are able to strike the balance between innovation and governance, to remain competitive. #AIGovernance #ResponsibleAI #DigitalTransformation #InnovationStrategy #RiskManagement

Ask ten vendors what an agent is and you get ten answers, each shaped to flatter whatever they happen to sell. So I went back to the word Agent itself. Compared a few different definitions, and proposed an aspirational definition for the future. My argument is simple, and maybe a bit uncomfortable. By today's definition, we have no legitimate agents yet. If you’re building in themes, you’re (at least) a couple years behind! Focus on the problems you’re passionate about and uniquely suited to solve. 🤝 Use Cases > Market Size 🤝 Investors are terrible at estimating market sizes.. TAM is always too low or too far above reality. Simplify. Focus on building an MVP and find a customer who’s obsessed with it and wants to pay you for it. From there you can scale! Uber replacing taxi cabs? Early riders weren’t using cabs, they were replacing car rides or public transit. It was WAY bigger than just the taxi industry. 🎯 Design for what matters most 🎯 Simple over complexity every day of the week. The Uber rider app was redesigned so many times over 15 years. But ultimately what mattered and still matters is ETA and price. The basics are always most important. 🤝 How can we help? 🤝 There are so many great companies building in different categories here in Boston. Investors need to help connect dots > find co-founders, find first employees, find customers, and even connect to other investors. Also, investors need to help companies amplify their stories for the future success of the company, fundraising, etc. And if you’re building in Enterprise AI and physical world AI, reach out to Brent too!
