Rishi Padhi liked thisRishi Padhi liked thisOne of the biggest names in packaged food raised its marketing spend by more than a third this year. Volume is still falling. Across the industry, about 93% of last year's growth came from price. Roughly 7% came from volume. For years we've sold the same number of units, sometimes fewer, for more money, and called it growth. Now the price lever is tapped out. Shoppers are trading down. So the industry does the next logical thing: it spends more to move product. Then volume drops anyway, and one question has no clean answer: which of those dollars caused growth? The honest reply, inside most CPG companies, is: we don't know. Because of how the measurement is built. A brand has a marketing mix model. A trade promotion model. A demand forecast. A shopper model. 4 platforms with 4 sets of recommendations, none of them see the full system. Each one measures correlation inside its own silo. So when you pour 37% more spend in, every model reports its own local truth, and not one of them can answer the question a growth leader actually has: did this spend cause growth, or did it just move alongside it? Spending more into truth silos doesn't buy you clarity. It just makes the thing you can't measure more expensive. Correlated spend tells you what moved together. Causal growth tells you what drove it. A Chief Growth Officer shouldn't have to stop at "how much did we spend?" The question worth answering: what caused growth to accelerate or stall, and where should the next dollar go? That shift, from correlation to causation, is the whole point of Enterprise Decision AI. Causal Clarity decomposes growth down to its real drivers. Unified Growth Planning turns that into where the next dollar goes, so the spend has a reason. I've sat in these measurement rooms for over a decade, watching spend climb while every team declared victory in its own silo. That's what pushed me to stop patching correlation-based tools and build a causal architecture from the ground up. Every Fortune 500 CPG deployment so far has moved EBITDA 1-2%, not by spending more, but by finally seeing which dollars actually caused the growth. For 17 years now I’ve been learning to admire and love this country that I call home, and that, like others, has great and also things to improve, but shines in having the balance of powers, constant fight for freedom and for democracy, more important than ever levers for us to continue building a better world. And crucial to this world that more and more blurs people and AI on how things get done. Rishi Padhi liked thisThis one is truly very special! Truly grateful for this experience and also for Latur's hospitality :-)Rishi Padhi liked thisThis one is special and close to our hearts. Perhaps the most testing chapter of our GuzzUp journey. 14th January. Makar Sankranti. A date we'll never forget. It was supposed to be the day we signed our very first co-packer agreement. After weeks of discussions, factory visits, negotiations and planning, this felt like the final formality. We walked into the office carrying the agreement... and boxes of sweets. We spoke about expansion plans. Our custom mould was already under development. Everything was on track. Then came one sentence. "Let's sign on the 16th. We don't sign agreements on Sankranti." That 16th never came. The deal quietly fell apart. Just two months before the beverage season. For anyone in this industry, you'll know what that means. We had already paid advances to suppliers to secure our raw materials and packaging. Finding a new co-packer in the middle of February felt almost impossible. But founders don't have the luxury of giving up. We started all over again. After weeks of relentless hustling, we found a new manufacturing partner in Latur, Maharashtra—one that turned out to be far better than what we had originally signed up for. We thought the storm had passed. It hadn't. As our production trials approached, the Iran conflict disrupted fuel supplies, transport became unpredictable, ingredients were delayed, and even our mould arrived weeks behind schedule. For days, our lives revolved around tracking IDs, transporter helplines and courier updates. At one point, we knew those numbers better than our own phone numbers. Twice, we drove to the Latur bus station at midnight to collect critical shipments ourselves and rush them straight to the factory. Our planned three-day production trial became six. We washed clothes in the hotel sink so we could wear them again the next morning. We learnt about Brix, pH, acidity and recipe adjustments on the factory floor. We clocked over 15,000 steps a day without ever entering a gym. From the trial to the commercial run, we stayed almost one full month in Latur. And then... The first GuzzUp bottle rolled out of the steaming conveyor. In that moment, every sleepless night, every setback and every ounce of doubt simply disappeared. It felt less like watching a bottle being made... ...and more like watching a dream come alive. Looking back, we're grateful things didn't go according to plan. Those months taught us resilience, patience and the importance of never letting go of a dream. More than anything, they showed us the value of the people who stand beside you when things aren't going your way. The road to building something meaningful is rarely straight. But sometimes, the detours take you exactly where you were meant to be. We thank BAI-KAKAJI POLYMERS LIMITED Pramodji, Akshay Mundada Akash Mundada for your support and partnership from day 1. #entrepreneurship #founderstory #GuzzUp Aashi Sanghvi Pranav Sheel

THE 2026 ALCOHOL “TRENDS” LIST IS OUT — HERE’S WHAT ACTUALLY MATTERS Forbes’ annual look at U.S. alcohol trends for 2026 outlines familiar but important forces shaping the market: moderation continuing to normalize, premium spirits holding relevance but facing more scrutiny, ongoing growth in RTDs and spirits-adjacent formats, and increasing overlap across beer, wine, spirits, NA, and adjacent categories. The article also notes a more price-conscious consumer, fewer impulse purchases, and a broader shift toward value and intentional choice as shelves and menus continue to converge into a wider “adult beverage” set. Those signals matter — but not for the reasons trend lists usually suggest. Every year, the headlines focus on what’s new: new formats, new categories, new buzzwords. What tends to get lost is what actually drives decisions once someone is standing at a shelf, a bar, or scrolling on their phone. Most drinkers don’t follow trends. They follow occasions. What keeps showing up beneath all the predictions: People want clarity, not complexity They want drinks that fit a moment, not a manifesto They’re choosing with context and convenience, not tasting notes And they’re still gathering — just differently than before Yes, moderation is real. Yes, RTDs and adjacencies keep evolving. Yes, price sensitivity matters more than it did five years ago. But none of that replaces the core truth of this industry: The drink is the handshake. The moment is the reason. As categories blur, competition shifts. Bottles aren’t just competing within their segment anymore — they’re competing against anything else that promises a similar feeling, pace, or experience. That’s why 2026 looks less like a breakout year and more like a sorting year. The brands and venues that win won’t be the ones chasing every trend. They’ll be the ones that help people answer a simple question faster: What should I drink right now, for this moment — and why will I enjoy it? When discovery gets easier. When flavor feels intuitive. When the experience fits real life. People don’t drink more. They drink better. People remember how it fit the moment.

Why Hain needed to sell its snack business Contrary to popular belief, Hain's divestiture is not an indictment on the future of snacking, the penetration of healthier snacks in the age of MAHA, or the ability of upstart brands to disrupt the marketplace. It's basic economics: Over the past year, Hain's leverage ratio (net debt/earnings) has increased from 3.7X to 4.7X. It's a function mostly of earnings declining 26% with only marginal improvement in net debt. Most investment grade firms have a target leverage ratio of ~ 2.5X and Hain has publicly set a target of 3.0. To reach its target, Hain has to generate $225M in debt reduction at current Ebitda levels. Holding Ebita at current levels is, of course, a huge assumption given prior performance. With increasing pressure on the balance sheet, Hain had to take a decision. The price paid for the snacks business is a sunk cost. The 20% decline of the snacks business in FY2025 on top of the 5% decline the previous year suggests that major investment, at the expense of its other categories with better growth prospects, would be required. Divesting the snacks business was an obvious choice, and I applaud the CEO and Board for taking decisive action.
