Ugi Ugwuomo shared thisThey were even more impressive in person! What an amazing crew and representation of the industry to come.Ugi Ugwuomo shared thisLast week, our Effie LIONS Foundation 2026 Voices of the Future fellows spent the week on the Croisette immersed in one of the most concentrated environments for creative marketing excellence in the world: Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. They walked the carpet, sat in sessions, participated in activations, and connected with some of the sharpest minds in the industry — but their contribution didn't stop there. As workshop catalysts for our Cultural Edge You Can't Buy session at the Palais, they brought lived experience, cultural fluency, and a point of view that challenged and enriched the room in ways that only they could. To the leaders, creatives, strategists, mentors, and industry professionals who took time to engage with them throughout the festival — whether in a session, in the VOTF worskshop room, on the Croisette, or over a conversation at the end of a long day — thank you. The Voices of the Future program exists to open doors, and you helped make that real for each and every fellow. We're proud of everything this cohort brought to Cannes Lions this year, and we can't wait to see where they take it from here. Ugi Ugwuomo shared thisHad one of the most rewarding conversations last week with the Effie LIONS Foundation Voices Of The Future Felllowship cohort. What promising hands the next generation of this industry are in! Anyone that knows me knows how fond I am of teaching and mentorship spaces. If there is anything I love more than listening to a good lecture, it’s watching a room full of bright minds look on attentively as I zone-out with long-winded reflections about culture and advertising. Haha! They are my happy place! So excited for each of them and looking forward to meeting the cohort in person this week in Cannes!Ugi Ugwuomo shared thisLanding a job in marketing has gotten more competitive and complex. For young people navigating AI, hybrid work, and an industry in constant transition, the barriers to entry are only increasing. Ugi Ugwuomo shared thisUgi Ugwuomo shared thisWe’re delighted to announce that TikTok is official partner of the 75th edition of the Festival de Cannes (May 17 - 28) - a major cultural event and certainly the most important film festival worldwide. This is a unique announcement for TikTok as we are the very first online platform to partner with the Festival de Cannes. Just like the Festival de Cannes, TikTok is home to authentic and creative expression that allows everyone to share or discover stories through videos. With this one of a kind collaboration, we’re looking forward to sharing the most exciting and inspiring moments from the Festival and seeing this iconic moment reimagined through the lens of TikTok creators and its community. To celebrate the partnership, ahead of the Festival we’re launching #TikTokShortFilm, a global competition to inspire creativity and support emerging talent. Three winners will be selected by a jury composed of film professionals and TikTok creator, for the categories of Grand Prix, Best Script and Best Editing.

Ugi Ugwuomo shared thisI mean wow.Ugi Ugwuomo shared thisNot many people realize that TikTok has literally flipped the music industry on its head, made bedroom musicians into platinum stars, and continues to drive culture beyond words. This: "Approximately 430 songs surpassed 1 billion video views as TikTok sounds in 2021–a threefold increase over 2020. The most popular of these songs approach, and even exceed, 20 billion views on videos they soundtrack. The staggering view counts on TikTok do not exist in a vacuum, but directly translate to commercial success for trending songs and artists. Over 175 songs that trended on TikTok in 2021 charted on the Billboard Hot 100, twice as many as last year."

Ugi Ugwuomo reacted on thisUgi Ugwuomo reacted on thisHey Young World! I've been back home now for a couple of days after this year's Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity. And I must say, I am still feeling high on the energy and on our win of our very first Lion for Excellence In Music video for Kendrick Lamar's "Luther" featuring SZA, directed by Karena Evans. This is a monumental moment for me personally, simply because I faced significant adversity when I embarked on this journey as an executive in 2015, coming from a music video background. Nevertheless, I stuck to my vision and belief in myself and my team, Fela and here we are today. Hip-Hop culture raised me! It has opened many worlds to me and continues to be the driving force behind the arts, fashion & culture. I am forever grateful for everyone we worked with in the past, present and future. A special thank you to Project 3 & pgLang, our creative collaborators. Congrats to all on the shortlists, the winners, and my fellow Canadian winners repping the country on the global stage. Blessings & Love,

Ugi Ugwuomo reacted on thisUgi Ugwuomo reacted on thisDay 5 + last day in France Surviving my 1st Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity TL;DR: Slept in, walked the empty Croisette, met Ling and Lamb, enjoyed Antibes, and networked all the way to my flight. How the day started... By this point my body said, "you've got to be kidding me if you think you're getting out of bed."So I got 7 hours of sleep and missed the last morning events. I met up with Allegra W., and we walked the Croisette and grabbed ice cream. The Croisette felt like a dead zone. It was like showing up to a party late after the fun already happened. Most people were in group chats talking about traffic, canceled flights, and having to stay another day. We went to the LBB (Little Black Book) & Friends happy hour. There I met up with more folks including Nina Archie and went to the beach. Side note: I somehow left my The Female Quotient Quotient flip flops there, and I am still sad about it. If there are any extras, I will be at WBMBA All Stars at The Female Quotient and would love another pair! We went to La Môme ((Thanks for the recommendation, Kristina Corniel.) The restaurant was packed, the line was long, and they were turning people away without reservations. Somehow, Allegra W. got us in with no wait. While in line, I met the internet duo Ling and Lamb! I was fan girling because their content brings me so much joy, and they were just as warm in person. Dinner was amazing and energizing. They were singing, clapping, flickering the lights, and the whole place felt like a must-do Cannes experience. Nighttime: We passed by the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity closing ceremony, then made our way to the Martinez Hotel lounge area to close out the night. The next day, I slept in, enjoyed the hotel pool, and explored the beach town thanks to Nina Archie and Dee. Even though the festival was technically over, I still met people in town from Cannes, including Janjay Sherman, Jason Keehn, and Ugi Ugwuomo. We reminisced about the week and what the experience meant. For my last dinner in Antibes, I ate at Le Phénicia, Cuisine Moderne Libanaise, with Allegra W., Nina Archie, and Renee King. Then Sunday came, and it was finally time to leave. Even in the luggage line, Cannes was still Cannes. I had the most amazing conversation about brand experiences with Marie-Élaine Lemire, who shared her podcast Sightlinelive and the incredible conversations she had during the festival. A reminder that the conference does not end when the panels stop. Lessons from both days: 1. Never stop networking. You would be surprised who you connect with on your way out. 2. Enjoy the moment. Conferences bring you to new places, so make time to experience the city too. 3. Build in time to rest and reset before the journey home. You never know what delays can happen, and being fueled is a gift. #Cannes2026

Ugi Ugwuomo reacted on thisUgi Ugwuomo reacted on thisAlmost a year ago, I was laid off from TikTok. At the same time, my partner and I were already planning one of the biggest adventures of our lives: moving ourselves, our dog, and our most treasured belongings to Cape Town, South Africa, to start a new chapter in her hometown. Looking back, the timing was oddly perfect. The transition gave me the opportunity to focus on the move, take on a contract with the American Medical Association, travel a bit, cross a few things off my bucket list (getting back on a jet ski! learning contra dance! seeing a show at Red Rocks!), and reconnect with who I am outside of a role that had become such a big part of my identity. Now I'm ready for my next big career move. I'm looking for one of those unicorn North American or European companies with global teams that are excited to hire great people wherever they live. If you have connections at organizations like that, I'd love an introduction. I'm also excited to meet founders and growing startups in Cape Town looking for a Director of Operations, Chief of Staff, or Program Manager. My favorite work is building the systems, processes, and cross-functional partnerships that help ambitious teams scale. If someone comes to mind, I'd love for you to tag them below, send me a message, or make an introduction. I'm ready; let's do this. 🇿🇦

Ugi Ugwuomo liked thisUgi Ugwuomo liked thisI've made almost $140 million in the NFL. Instead of paying people to manage it, I went back to school. In the offseason, while other guys are training or resting, I take finance classes at Clemson. A 13-year vet sitting in a college classroom, learning how money actually works. Early in my career, it didn't dawn on me that you have to educate yourself before you hand your money to someone else. I watched teammates make fortunes and lose them because they trusted the wrong people and never learned the game. I didn't want to be one of them. So now I do the work myself. I read the deals. I ask the questions that make me look like I don't know anything, because that's how you actually learn. I'd rather understand every company I'm in than trust that somebody else does. This isn't only about sports. Anybody who earns money eventually decides whether to understand it or hand it off and hope. I chose to understand it. That's the work that turns an athlete who invests into a real one, and it's how I'll build my own fund.

Ugi Ugwuomo reacted on thisUgi Ugwuomo reacted on thisOur last day at Cannes Lions was also filled with unforgettable learnings and experiences. We started the day with Islam ElDessouky , Global Vice President of Creative Strategy & Content for Coca-Cola TM. I am so grateful for that space. His energy was contagious, and he left us feeling inspired, motivated, and reminded of why this industry is so exciting. From that conversation, I took three lessons that will stay with me: Don’t take life too seriously!! Smile. Enjoy the journey. Respect everyone equally. And most importantly: believe in your ideas, even when they sound crazy — even to you. Later, we had a session with Lara O’Shea, our VOTF Strategic Advisor, to reflect on this incredible week. Thank you, Lara, for creating such a meaningful space for us to process, question, and connect everything we had experienced. If I had to leave Cannes with one main learning, it would be this: Culture and marketing are a powerful duo. When brands understand culture deeply, they do more than communicate. They connect, move, and create meaning. I also had an incredible lunch thanks to the Effie LIONS Foundation, where we had the chance to share the table with industry leaders. I had the opportunity to sit with Connie Chan , Chief Growth Officer, Asia-Pacific at Stagwell, and talk about marketing, the industry, culture, and even K-dramas. It was such a fun and meaningful moment. I loved being able to share that space and that conversation with her and with my fellow Voices of the Future Fellows. We also had the opportunity to attend one of the most important award shows of the festival, where we saw some truly incredible campaigns. One of my favorites was Life360’s “I Think of You (Dying),” which told a story that so many mothers can relate to, but in such a creative, unexpected, and bold way!!! I also loved IKEA’s “Made for Life,” because it reminded me that brands do not only sell products. They sell objects that become part of our lives: our sadness, our joy, our routines, our memories, and the spaces where life happens. And the campaign that impacted me the most was “Bullet Machine” for La Unión Newspaper It left me speechless. It was a brutal and necessary reality check about what it means to be a journalist in Mexico. Everyone in the room felt it. Everyone understood the severity of the issue. It was powerful, painful, and unforgettable. And just like that, this week of learning came to an end. Thank you, Effie LIONS Foundation , for everything. Thank you for making this week so special, for believing in us, for giving us this opportunity, and for allowing us to live experiences and lessons that I will carry with me forever. I leave Cannes with a full heart, a clearer purpose, and a deeper belief that this industry has the power to shape culture, tell stories, and create real impact. What a week. What a dream. What a beginning.

Ugi Ugwuomo liked thisUgi Ugwuomo liked thisMaybe the ROI was the friends we made along the way. My time at Cannes Lions deepened the love I have for our industry. I loved seeing practitioners, many who’ve probably seen brilliant work get killed for a host of reasons, not only take something over the line but get celebrated for it on the biggest stage. While the experience could easily have been overwhelming, I’m thankful I stayed curious for the most part. Long lines were an opportunity to connect with someone new. Seemingly unrelated discussions gave me new ways of seeing. And I’ve come away from the experience inspired and full of conviction. It’s already been said but COLLINS House was the place to be. A lot of thought and care went into how the experience was curated. S/O to Eron for looking fresh while being the most gracious host in that record breaking heat. People close to me know I love to share my opinions, sometimes unprovoked. So it was a real honor to be invited to speak on a panel about the new creative class alongside Tony, Aubrei, Monica, and Romeo. Thank you Cannes Can: Diversity Collective, for the opportunity. My one mild take: if budgets are to remain the same (in some cases shrink), the introduction of new players, especially creators deserves serious consideration. While some are advocating for either/or (Alex Cooper), I think the opportunity lies in both/and. The strongest work has always emerged from unexpected partnerships, and this era will reward teams that know how to build across disciplines, business models, and creative perspectives. Agencies, creators, strategists, production partners, and brands each bring something distinct. The value comes from orchestrating those strengths. The moment the work becomes a series of hand-offs, you become a middleman. Those are the players facing the greatest risk. I want to thank the people who made the entire experience unforgettable. From an “OMG, what are you doing here?” to thoughtful conversations unpacking everything we’d been seeing, it all added to the experience. Sabaa, Kenya, Michelle, Lauren, Amanda, Eche, Chika, Miguelangel, Francis, Fred, Bryce, CP McBee, Chloe, Niyah, Antoinie, Stacy, and R. Kurt Osenlund. I guess, till the next one 🤎 #Cannes #CannesLions2026

Attention is easy to buy. Acceptance is not. Fandom Intelligence helps brands understand the cultural systems they're entering before launching, investing, or scaling. Because misreading a community is no longer a PR risk. It's a business risk. Strategic insight beats louder execution.
