Great to speak to Orlando Crowcroft at the Financial Times about why we're so bullish on fusion energy. Proxima Fusion has been one of our highest-conviction investments since we led their seed round in 2024. Unlike fission, fusion carries no risk of meltdown and produces no radioactive waste. It's the closest thing to a truly clean, abundant energy source that physics allows. For us, the investment decision came down to the approach and team - and with their stellarator-driven technology, Proxima has both. Within just a couple of years they've already become Europe's leading fusion energy company, raising over €200M and on track to build their Stellarator Model Coil by 2027. With the global race for fusion accelerating, we're proud to be backing the team at the frontier of it. Link to the article in the comments.

“I don’t believe fusion would happen without welders. Welding is basically materials science practiced in reality." – Lex (Matthew) Palmer, CFS Welding Engineering Manager Commercial fusion energy is an entirely new industry, and developing the world's first fusion power plants begins with physics and engineering. But a lot of the work involved is a new application of existing expertise. Making our SPARC fusion demonstration machine is a chance for pipefitters, electricians, and welders to apply their skills and knowledge to a tremendously important new energy technology. The payoff will be massive and historic. Adds Elle Allen, CFS R&D Project Manager: "When I think about humanity's energy needs over the next 100 years — this won't just fill that. It will fill humanity's energy needs over the next 10,000." Thanks to CleanEcon and Future in Bloom for including us and our team in your film, IGNITION. #FusionEnergy #Energy

⚡ Proxima Fusion Raises €411M at €2.4B Valuation to Advance Commercial Fusion Power Proxima Fusion, a Munich-based fusion energy startup, has announced €411 million ($468 million) in funding at a €2.4 billion ($2.7 billion) valuation, making it one of the most valuable fusion energy companies in Europe. The round was led by XTX Ventures and East X Ventures, with strategic investments from RWE and Google, alongside support from a broad group of global venture capital firms and institutional investors. Founded by Dr. Francesco Sciortino, Proxima Fusion is the first spin-out from the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics and is developing commercial fusion power plants based on its QI-HTS stellarator technology. The company builds on decades of scientific research from the Wendelstein 7-X program, one of the world's most advanced stellarator fusion experiments. Fusion energy has long been considered the "holy grail" of clean energy because it has the potential to generate virtually unlimited, carbon-free electricity without the long-lived radioactive waste associated with traditional nuclear power. Unlike intermittent renewable sources, fusion could provide continuous baseload energy capable of powering cities and industries around the clock. The new funding will enable Proxima Fusion to expand its engineering and scientific teams, accelerate research and development, and move closer to commercializing stellarator-based fusion power plants. Today, the company employs around 200 professionals across its offices in Munich, Zurich, and Oxford, bringing together experts in plasma physics, engineering, and advanced energy systems. With growing global demand for sustainable and reliable energy, investments in fusion technology continue to accelerate. Proxima Fusion's latest funding highlights increasing confidence that fusion is moving beyond experimental research toward commercial deployment, with the potential to reshape the future of global energy production and support the transition to a carbon-free economy. #ProximaFusion #FusionEnergy #CleanEnergy #ClimateTech #EnergyInnovation #Stellarator #NuclearFusion #DeepTech #RenewableEnergy #NetZero #Sustainability #FutureOfEnergy #Google #RWE #StartupFunding #ClimateInnovation #EnergyTransition #Technology #Innovation #Science #Engineering #TechNews #FutureTech #Decarbonization #GreenEnergy
