Everyone is talking about #AI in logistics. Some still believe logistics is simply about moving goods from A to B. And now headlines around the world are asking: Can logistics be replaced by AI-driven software? The answer is both simple and incomplete. ▶️ AI enables us to process billions of data points in real time. ▶️ It anticipates risk before it materialises. ▶️ It increases transparency across global networks. ▶️ It reduces manual errors while accelerating throughput. In short: AI drives efficiency. And further: There is no future for logistics without AI. But here is the real question: Will AI make supply chains more efficient or more human? Yes, you read correctly: human. Because efficiency alone is not the benchmark. #CustomerExperience is. Let me explain this by looking into the status quo. Already today, we use AI to: Predict more reliable ETAs by real-time recalculation. Detect disruptions earlier allowing for proactive route and capacity planning. Automate end-to-end workflows, reducing manual work, errors, and processing time across core operations. This is not theory, it’s no longer experimental, it’s daily practice. And there is a lot more to come. Yet, what matters most is this: The more powerful AI becomes, the more decisive the #HumanExpertise becomes. In an AI-driven world, customers will not differentiate us by who has access to technology. Technology will become mainstream. Customers will differentiate us by: ▶️ Who explains complexity clearly. ▶️ Who takes ownership when disruption hits. ▶️ Who anticipates consequences, not just data patterns. ▶️ Who acts as a strategic partner, not just a service provider. AI allows us to be faster. Customer experience requires us to be better. The real opportunity for our industry is not to automate relationships but to elevate them. AI can process billions of data points. But trust is built through clarity, reliability, and accountability. Kuehne+Nagel’s ambition is simple: Lead in AI. Lead in customer experience. Because the future of logistics will not be defined by algorithms alone but by how intelligently and responsibly we use them to serve our customers. We’ll share further insights into our AI strategy during the Kuehne+Nagel Conference Call on March 3, 2026.

Circular Supply Chain 🌍 The concept of circularity is driving a significant transformation in how supply chains operate. The goal is not simply to optimize processes but to redesign them to support systems that preserve value and reduce pressure on natural resources. Circular supply chains rely on multiple streams of value. These include the physical movement of products, the continuous exchange of information, the flow of capital, and the reintegration of recovered materials. Each stream plays a role in maintaining performance within ecological and economic limits. For supply chain teams, this transformation involves redesigning supplier networks, adjusting internal structures, and implementing new performance management systems. These efforts are central to enabling circular operations that are both resilient and measurable. Progress also depends on collaboration across departments. Decisions made in product development, finance, and public affairs influence whether circular solutions can scale. From designing with secondary materials to ensuring regulatory alignment, shared accountability is essential. Engaging customers in circular models presents its own challenges. Strategies must consider behavior, trust, and accessibility in order to extend product use or recover components at the end of their life cycle. This goes beyond messaging and into the design of services and experiences. Data is a critical enabler. Understanding material flows, product performance, and system efficiency requires investment in accurate and timely information. Without this, decision making becomes reactive rather than strategic. Policy and regulatory developments are also shaping how supply chains must respond. Requirements related to product stewardship, material traceability, and environmental impact reporting are becoming more common and more specific. Leading organizations are treating circular supply chains not as an operational upgrade but as a strategic foundation. This shift opens the door to innovation, improves resource security, and aligns with the growing demand for transparency and long term value creation. #sustainability #sustainable #esg #business #circular

  • I believe AI creates real value when it tackles hard, physical problems — the kind that live in factories, warehouses, and service tasks. Recently, I learned the attached from a plastics machine manufacturer and logistics provider struggling with unpredictable production schedules, warehouse congestion, and reactive maintenance routines. When a structured AI implementation approach was brought into the equation the following outcome was achieved 👇 🔹 Smart Production Planning – Machine learning models forecasted demand and optimized resin batch production, cutting material waste by 18%. 🔹 AI-Driven Warehouse Logistics – Intelligent slotting and routing algorithms boosted order fulfillment rates by 25%, reducing forklift travel time and idle inventory. 🔹 Predictive Maintenance for Service Teams – Sensor data and pattern recognition flagged early signs of machine wear, reducing unplanned downtime by 30%. The result wasn’t automation replacing people — it was augmentation empowering people. Operators, warehouse managers, and service engineers gained real-time insights to make faster, better decisions. 💡 Takeaway: AI success in industrial environments isn’t about technology first — it’s about aligning data, people, and process to create measurable operational impact. #AI #IndustrialServices #SmartManufacturing #WarehouseOptimization #PredictiveMaintenance #DigitalTransformation #OperationalExcellence

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤: "𝐓𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐎𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧" (#𝐓𝐑𝐎) The transition from "traditional sustainability" to 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 #𝐎𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 is the bridge between ESG and the bottom line. This framework proposes that any waste—be it a wasted kilowatt, a wasted liter of water, or a wasted hour of human potential—is a financial #leakage. 1. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐞𝐧𝐬 Optimization can’t happen in a vacuum. By viewing the entire value chain as a single, interconnected system, businesses can identify where #inefficiencies are "exported" or "imported." 2. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 In this model, the competitive edge is sharpened through three specific pillars: #𝘊𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱: Drastic reduction in O&M (Operations and Maintenance) costs through circularity and waste elimination. #𝘙𝘪𝘴𝘬 𝘔𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯: Reducing dependence on volatile commodity markets (energy/materials) by optimizing internal loops. #𝘏𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘊𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘝𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘺: Optimizing "human resources" isn't about working people harder; it's about removing friction through better tools and culture, leading to higher retention and innovation. 3. 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐫 Once optimization is the goal, technology stops being a luxury and becomes a precision instrument: #𝘈𝘐 & 𝘔𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨: Used for Predictive Maintenance (saving equipment life), Load Balancing (optimizing energy use in real-time) and many other use cases. #𝘋𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘛𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘴: Creating virtual models of the supply chain to test "what-if" scenarios for resource conservation before spending a dime. #𝘐𝘰𝘛: Providing the granular data needed to see the "invisible waste" in water and thermal systems.

📌 Procurement: the backbone of resilience in the automotive supply chain! 🚗💡 Traditional supply chain models, once optimized for efficiency above all else, are no longer enough in an era defined by global disruptions, regulatory shifts, electrification, and the rise of software-defined vehicles. 👏🏻 A clear example of this transformation comes from AUDI AG, with the use of Camunda’s process orchestration platform within its procure-to-pay function. As mentioned in Procurement Magazine, the strategy about setting a new standard for procurement excellence. By embedding orchestration, Audi has improved efficiency, transparency, and auditing, building a foundation it can scale across departments and even into other business units. ‼️ Across the automotive landscape, OEMs and suppliers are facing the same major challenges, all coming down to three key factors for future-proofing procurement: 📊 1. Digital-first sourcing ecosystems: AI, predictive analytics, and digital orchestration tools are transforming procurement into a proactive, intelligence-driven capability. Legacy just-in-time (JIT) systems are giving way to trade-insulated, data-backed strategies that balance cost with resilience. Supplier visibility combined with Predictive procurement means organizations can anticipate disruptions before they cascade. 🔄 2. Balancing cost with resilience: The term “cost of resilience” has entered boardroom conversations. Companies are learning that efficiency alone is fragile, and resilience has a price. Diversifying sourcing networks reduces dependency on single regions or suppliers. In the automotive industry, where raw materials like semiconductors and rare earths are vulnerable to geopolitical swings, resilience is not optional. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ This is where GAMUT shines ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌱 3. Sustainable procurement as a growth strategy: Sustainability is no longer a compliance box, it is a strategic driver for business. Procurement now incorporates: 🔸 Ethical sourcing and labor transparency. 🔸 Circular economy principles, ensuring materials are reused, recycled, or responsibly recovered. 🔸 Supplier management platforms that embed sustainability metrics into decision-making. Companies that digitize supplier management report up to a 25% increase in supply chain resilience, a tangible link between sustainability and operational performance. Procurement has evolved into a strategic enabler: ✔ Transparent: through orchestration and visibility ✔ Efficient: through automation and AI ✔ Resilient: through diversification and predictive sourcing ✔ Sustainable: through ethical and circular sourcing 🎯 In a world where software-defined vehicles, electrification, and fast-shifting regulations are redefining mobility, procurement is the foundation that determines which companies thrive in the next decade. #supplychain #automotivesupplychain #supplychaininnovation 👇🏻 See comments for sources GAMUT Timuçin Kip

Building Supply Chains for the Moon: What LuSEE-Night Teaches Us About Extreme Supply Chain Operations When SpaceX launches the LuSEE-Night radio telescope to the moon's far side in early 2027, it will represent more than a scientific milestone—it's a masterclass in extreme supply chain design. ⏰ The planning horizon challenge Astronomer Jack Burns first conceived of a lunar radio telescope in 1984. Forty-three years later, it's finally launching. Think your product development cycles are long? Try managing supplier relationships, technology evolution, and stakeholder alignment across four decades and seven presidential administrations. 📦 The weight of constraints LuSEE-Night's entire payload budget: 108 kg. Of that, 38 kg is just batteries—not for science, but survival. Every component decision became a zero-sum tradeoff between functionality and mass. Supply chain lesson: When constraints are absolute, optimization isn't a nice-to-have—it's mission-critical. There's no "expedited shipping" to the lunar surface. 🌡️ Operating in the impossible Temperature swings from 120°C to -130°C. Two-week nights with no solar power. Cosmic radiation. Zero maintenance windows. The design requirements: → Self-sustaining for 2 years minimum → No field service possible → Single point of failure = total mission loss → 400,000 km communication latency to mission control 🔗 The extended supply network This isn't a single-vendor operation. The mission requires: 🚀 SpaceX (launch provider) 🛸 Firefly Aerospace (lander manufacturer) 🔬 UC Berkeley (spectrometer design) 🛰️ NASA (project oversight & relay satellites) ⚙️ Multiple component suppliers (each mission-qualified) Every interface between these organizations becomes a potential failure point. Contract management, quality assurance, and integration testing must be flawless. 💡 What terrestrial supply chains can learn - Yes, most of us aren't shipping to the moon. But the principles scale: 1. Design for reliability first: can your operation survive if a critical component fails and replacement takes weeks? 2. Understand your true constraints: weight limits force brutal prioritization. What's your equivalent non-negotiable constraint? 3. Extended lead times require different thinking: when Burns started in 1984, lithium-ion batteries barely existed. The final design uses technology that didn't exist when planning began. 🎯 The bottom line The lunar surface is the ultimate "remote operation." No spare parts. No site visits. No do-overs. As supply chains stretch across continents and complexity increases, we're all operating a little more like LuSEE-Night than we might think. Question for supply chain leaders: What's the longest planning horizon you've successfully executed? And what would change if you couldn't send anyone to fix problems on-site? #SupplyChain #Logistics #SpaceEconomy #Truckl #Manufacturing #Innovation
