    𝗨𝗸𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗿. 𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗶𝗿-𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺. 🛩️ Brave1 CEO Andrii Hrytseniuk has described a Ukrainian interceptor-drone ecosystem that is moving far beyond a single “anti-Shahed” design, with more than 150 companies reportedly working on interceptor solutions inside a defence-tech cluster that now includes thousands of firms. The important signal is architectural diversity. Ukraine is not betting everything on one platform, one supplier or one technical answer. It is building a layered family of small FPV-derived interceptors, fixed-wing designs, larger loitering systems, X-wing hybrids, high-speed variants, endurance-focused platforms and specialised systems for different target sets, from reconnaissance UAVs and decoys to heavy Shahed-type attack drones. That matters because #DroneWarfare is now a cost-curve fight. A Shahed should not always require an expensive missile, and a decoy should not always consume a premium interceptor. Ukraine’s answer is to build many cheaper layers that can match the threat more intelligently, preserve scarce air-defence missiles and turn industrial speed into defensive depth. ⚙️ The autonomy debate is just as important. Hrytseniuk reportedly points to a human-on-the-loop model, where a human retains the authority to cancel or block action but does not necessarily approve every intercept in real time. That is a major shift, driven by reaction speed against mass drone attacks, but it also raises the central question every military will face: how much autonomy is acceptable when seconds decide whether a city, power plant or airbase is hit? For #Ukraine, the lesson is brutally practical. Air defence is no longer only a question of radars, launchers and missiles; it is becoming a software-defined, mass-manufactured, continuously updated kill web where startups, soldiers, volunteers and state platforms iterate together under fire. In #ModernWarfare, the country that can adapt the interceptor faster than the enemy adapts the drone begins to change the economics of the sky.     Six and a half years ago, we introduced a simple yet radical idea: the state must work for the people, not the other way around. The Ministry of Digital Transformation didn’t just change perceptions of public services — we changed the very model of the state. In 2019, the President set the goal of building a “state in a smartphone.” Skeptics said it was impossible. Today, it’s an everyday reality for millions of Ukrainians. Every Ukrainian has felt the results of our work. Diia is a true lovemark for Ukrainians. Over 23 million users. Fewer lines, less paperwork, no bribes — over the years, Diia has saved the state and its citizens ₴184 billion. Fifty-eight percent of Ukrainians say outright: digitalization is the most effective way to fight corruption. Russia is destroying our telecom infrastructure, yet even so, we delivered what many considered “impossible”: 🔸 Ukraine ranks No. 1 globally for fixed internet stability. 🔸 97% 4G coverage. 🔸 8,000 villages and towns connected to the internet for the first time. 🔸 Ukraine is the first non-EU country to join EU roaming. 🔸 Starlink Direct to Cell. 🔸 5G in Lviv. Fifty thousand Starlink terminals provide connectivity at the front line, in hospitals, schools, and Points of Invincibility. UNITED24 has united the world around Ukraine. Last year alone, the platform raised $1.86 billion for thousands of drones and munitions, hundreds of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and other vehicles, AI-controlled turrets, and various other types of military equipment. We also launched Mriia — the world’s No. 1 education product for students, parents, and teachers. It’s a next-generation ecosystem that helps every child realize their potential and become who they dream of being. Today, Diia.City includes 3,400+ companies, nearly 140,000 employees, and ₴34.6 billion in taxes paid in 2025, double the previous figure. Right now, however, the main focus is the war. We fight with technology. We launched the Army of Drones, which stopped the enemy’s advance at the start of the full-scale invasion. Brave1 has become the largest angel investor in Ukrainian defense tech and has scaled from drones to the production of UGVs and missiles. The cluster is already running joint programs with European partners and helped Ukrainian startups raise $105 million in venture investment in 2025 alone. We introduced the Army of Drones.Bonus system and are already seeing its impact. The Defense Forces receive high-quality battlefield data; units order equipment through the innovative Brave1 Market, an “Amazon for war”; and enemy losses are growing every month—over 30,000 Russians eliminated in December. Today, the Ministry of Digital Transformation is the most effective ministry in the country. Digitalization is the number one reform in terms of public trust. We didn’t promise. We delivered. Ukraine can be fast. Ukraine can be technological. Ukraine can be a leader.

    For years, companies have ramped up the surveillance of their employees, often without the employees' knowledge (or consent): monitoring what websites they accessed, their phone calls, their keystrokes, the speed with which they drove, and numerous other things. As this piece points out, the advent of AI makes actually analyzing all the tracking data much easier and less expensive, so the surveillance industry is about to get even bigger. In the U.S., when employees go to work, they give up their rights--to speak, to privacy, to criticize their companies and their decisions, and so many other things. As this piece also notes and as social science research has frequently demonstrated, job autonomy is an important determinant of motivation. With people under ever more monitoring, it is little wonder that job satisfaction and engagement, and for that matter trust in organizations, has fallen.     The rapid rise of combat drones illustrates a classic pattern described by Clayton Christensen. Drones represent a 𝐥𝐨𝐰-𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐫𝐮𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲: initially dismissed as inferior to established systems, yet capable of reshaping the entire competitive landscape. For decades, the Western defense industry focused on increasingly sophisticated missiles, precision bombs, and air-defense systems. These technologies became extremely advanced—and extremely expensive. In that environment, small and relatively crude drones seemed strategically irrelevant. Yet disruption often starts exactly there. Take the Iranian Shahed drones now widely used in conflicts. They are cheap, simple, and can be produced in large numbers. Their real power lies not in individual performance but in scale and swarm tactics. When launched in large waves, they overwhelm traditional air-defense systems designed to intercept a limited number of high-value missiles. Using million-dollar interceptors against drones costing a few tens of thousands of dollars is economically unsustainable. This is classic Christensen logic: incumbents optimize for high-end performance while the disruptive technology improves rapidly in a different dimension—in this case cost, scalability, and operational flexibility. But the real lesson is not only technological.Ukraine has shown that the decisive capability lies in how drones are used: agile combat strategies, distributed command structures, and operators who can adapt in real time. Human intelligence, battlefield learning, and tactical creativity matter as much as the hardware itself. It all has to go together. For Europe and the wider West, the implication is that defense strategies must shift from a narrow focus on expensive platforms toward learning systems that combine low-cost technology, rapid experimentation, and shared operational intelligence. And this knowledge already exists: Ukraine today is probably the world’s most advanced laboratory for drone warfare. Western militaries should accelerate collaboration and learning from that experience. The rise of low-cost drones and other low-end digitalized warfare technologies also forces a reconsideration of how military budgets are optimized. His perspective was clear: Europe, flush with cash and a front-row seat to the Ukraine crisis 🎯, is rapidly rewriting its defense playbook.     As AI tools advance rapidly, it's important for employers to understand where the ethical and legal boundaries lie. The EU AI Act has taken a firm stance: AI systems that infer personality or emotions from biometric data — including face-based personality prediction — are prohibited or classified as high-risk. The legislation recognises the profound risks these tools pose to fairness, discrimination, privacy, and human dignity. In Australia, no equivalent protections currently exist. This means technologies that would be unlawful in Europe could still enter the Australian recruitment market — without the guardrails needed to prevent discrimination or algorithmic bias. As employers explore AI for hiring, screening, or talent management, now is the time to stay alert: —Be cautious of AI tools claiming to “predict personality” or “assess fit” from images or videos. —Demand transparency, validation evidence and bias testing from vendors. —Ensure any AI used in HR aligns with ethical standards — even if legislation lags behind. Until stronger regulation arrives in Australia, the responsibility rests with employers to safeguard their people and their processes from high-risk AI. AI is changing how we do our jobs—and soon, it will change which jobs exist at all. Some roles will disappear, while new ones emerge. Naturally, unions are concerned—not just about job losses, but about mental health, workplace safety, and the risks of unregulated AI adoption. They have been vocal in demanding that workers be at the centre of AI adoption decisions. We are at a crossroads: how do we balance AI-driven productivity gains with the impact on workers? 📢 The House Standing Committee on Employment, Education and Training has released a report on the digital transformation of workplaces, examining the rapid rise of automated decision-making and machine learning in employment. 107 pages of insights, challenges, and, crucially, 21 recommendations. There's a lot in there, but some key details include: 📌 Regulating AI in employment – The report recommends that AI used in employment decisions (such as hiring and termination) be classified as high-risk, ensuring stronger oversight and safeguards against unfair or biased outcomes. 📌 Strengthening worker privacy protections – It's clear the current privacy laws fail to protect workers’ privacy. At the same time, the Fair Work Act does not contain dedicated privacy protections. The report recommends: 🔹 Banning high-risk uses of workers data, such as providing it to AI developers. 🔹 Prohibiting the sale to third parties of workers’ personal data. 🔹 Requiring transparency in workplace surveillance and data use. 🔹 Empowering the Fair Work Commission to handle privacy-related complaints. 📌 Ensuring worker consultation on AI adoption – Employers should be obligated to consult workers throughout AI adoption, ensuring that new technologies are implemented fairly and do not unfairly disadvantage employees. 📌 Mandating independent AI audits – Government audits of AI are recommended to monitor bias, fairness, and compliance, ensuring AI decisions meet ethical and legal standards. The industrial relations fire has long been burning between unions, employees, and employers—and AI is accelerant. We must strike the balance between AI adoption and worker protections.
