Trivandrum is finally getting closer to having its own metro system. While the government spent years debating between a smaller "light metro" and a standard heavy metro, they have finally locked in the final plans.

The new Trivandrum Metro is designed around the city’s growing population and major traffic spots. According to the latest plan, the network will stretch over 31 kilometers, connecting key areas from Pappanamcode all the way to Kazhakootam and Eanchakkal.

Right now, Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) is handing over the final, revised project report to the state government for its main approval. In this blog, we will look at what the proposed route looks like and how it is going to impact property prices across the city.

Thiruvananthapuram Metro: Funds Allocated for the Project

The Trivandrum Light Metro is finally moving forward. In the June 2026 budget, the Kerala government has set aside the first round of funds to get the work started on the ground.

  • Allocated Funds: The government has cleared ₹20 crore right away just to start the basic, initial paperwork and ground checking.

  • New Route Plan: This funding comes right as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is finishing up the new, updated route map for the city.

Trivandrum Light Metro Fare

KRTC has not yet disclosed the Trivandrum metro fare and ticket prices. The schedule of charges will be released near the completion of the metro line. However, the authority has proposed minimum fare prices of Rs.11 and the maximum Trivandrum Metro Fare prices of Rs.42.

The authority has planned to implement advanced fare collection technologies such as Barcode Scanners, QR Codes, Contactless Smart Cards, and Contactless Smart Tokens.

Construction Details of the Trivandrum Metro

Rolling Stock: Each train of Trivandrum Metro will consist of three coaches arranged in a leading car, an intermediate car, and another leading car formation. The dimensions of each car will be 18 meters in length and 2.7 meters in width. Therefore, the total length of the train will be approximately 54 meters.

Track Elevation: The Trivandrum City Corporation faced challenges building an elevated viaduct in the city due to narrow roads in many suburbs. In July 2019, the Kerala Chief Minister stated that the Trivandrum Metro route would go through the busy suburbs of Sreekariyam, Kesavadasapuram, and Pattom to reach Thampanoor.

Real Estate Impact of Trivandrum Light Metro: Where Property Prices Will Go Up

Now that the metro route from Kazhakootam to Pappanamcode is getting finalized, land and flat prices along this line are starting to jump.

Here is how different areas will benefit:

Area

Why It's in News

What Will Happen to Property

Kazhakootam & Technopark

Near the IT hub and the proposed metro yard.

Huge demand for rental flats and PG rooms for techies; property prices will climb fast.

Thampanoor & MG Road

Connects the main railway station and bus stand.

Shop spaces and commercial buildings will become much more valuable.

Medical College area

Easy travel for doctors, students, and hospital staff.

Good demand for family apartments and small clinics.

Pappanamcode

The last stop on the Phase-1 route.

More builders will launch budget-friendly housing projects here.

  • Land Rates: Experts feel that land within a 10-minute walk from any future metro station will see prices go up by 15% to 25% very soon.

  • Easy Living: Builders are already buying plots near the metro line to build compact apartments for young buyers who want to skip daily traffic.
