At the time, I thought I was writing about challenges, mindset and performance. Looking back now, I realise it was also about something deeper: how we navigate the moments where something in us quietly says — this way matters more. Over the past years, I’ve had countless conversations with leaders and teams who recognise that moment. Not always loud. Not always convenient. But often the start of something meaningful. Taking some time out in Europe right now has reminded me of that again. Sometimes, stepping back is what allows us to see the path more clearly. The work I do today is still anchored in that idea — helping leaders and teams navigate those junctions, especially under pressure. I’ll share a few reflections on that over the coming months. At the ripe old age of 57 I am putting into practice what I preach and using my transferrable skills to start a new career direction. I am very proud to have just passed my SMSF Association SMSFA Specialist Advisor Course. After nearly 30 years of corporate life I am now using all my learning, experience and skills as an authentic communicator, coach, problem solver, systems thinker, agile learner and my intellectual horsepower to shift from developing people to supporting people to invest in property and set up an SMSF for their retirement planning. Its new, its exciting and its making a difference to people which is what I truly love. Meredith Wellard reacted on thisMeredith Wellard reacted on thisYesterday, I had the incredible opportunity to join Captain Jean-Luc Schutgens in a jumpseat on a DHL Express flight from Cologne to Stuttgart. Together with Robbin Simenon and Ron Lennertz, I was invited to experience aviation from a completely different perspective. Being in the cockpit and witnessing the professionalism, teamwork, and decision-making firsthand was truly inspiring. One of the most rewarding aspects of leadership is seeing people grow beyond what they initially thought possible. I remember hiring Jean-Luc when he joined as a courier at Service Center Maastricht and encouraging him to explore opportunities in aviation. The rest is entirely his achievement. Seeing him today as a Captain and leader of more than 70 pilots made this experience even more meaningful. A powerful reminder that when talent meets opportunity, remarkable things can happen! Meredith Wellard liked thisMeredith Wellard liked thisOver twenty years ago, I sat in lecture theatres like this as a student at the University of Nuremberg. This week, I returned to speak about leadership, resilience and growth. It was one of those moments that made me pause and reflect. What struck me most wasn't how much had changed. It was how much the core questions remain the same: • How do we navigate our biggest challenges? • How do we break through to the next level? • How do we stay effective when the world around us becomes increasingly complex? Over the last four months, I've been working and travelling across Europe. Along the way, I've had conversations with leaders, teams, students and academics. Different industries. Different countries. Different life stages. Yet the same pattern keeps emerging: Most people don't need to work harder. They need a bigger playing field on the inside. Pressure doesn't just test our skills. It reveals our assumptions, habits and limitations. It reveals the operating system we rely on when things become difficult. The leaders who continue to grow are often those who learn to expand that inner capacity first. Only then can they create new possibilities on the outside. As the Australian financial year begins, many leaders and teams will be setting goals, plans and priorities. Perhaps an equally important question is: Who are we being asked to become in order to create what we want to achieve? I'm looking forward to returning to Australia soon and continuing that conversation with leaders and teams navigating growth, change and complexity.
