Budget 2026: Manufacturing Gets a Tech Upgrade — Big Tailwinds for Robotics As India doubles down on “Make in India,” the Union Budget 2026–27 has placed strong emphasis on modernising manufacturing infrastructure and upgrading industrial clusters — creating the right conditions for large-scale adoption of robotics and automation. What’s in it: • CapEx push to ₹12.2 trillion to modernise manufacturing, logistics, and industrial infrastructure. • Revival and upgradation of legacy industrial clusters with modern technology and digital infrastructure. Karnataka’s experience demonstrates that adding wind power alone is not enough—timing and adaptability matter. Strengthening flexible wind generation (including forecasting, hybrid projects, and storage integration) is essential for meeting peak demand, especially in deficit months. Interesting facts by Down to Earth report: Karnataka’s installed capacity : 36.4 GW, with 7.3 GW solar, 6.5 GW wind, 7 GW hydro, 5 GW thermal—renewables comprise nearly two-thirds of the mix Despite annual energy surplus, SLDC projects 492 hours of unmet demand in FY27, centered in March-April when wind is low and hydro is seasonal. LoLP of 5.62 pc way higher than target of 0.2 pc. How Data Centre boom making prospects bright for KRN Heat Exchangers? • An estimated Rs 1.6 lakh crore in capex is committed in data centres over the next 5 years (Google, AdaniConneX, Reliance) • For every $1 spent on servers, roughly $0.40 is on cooling and power infrastructure. This implies a multi-billion-dollar addressable market, specifically for industrial heat exchangers (precision cooling). 》How big is the opportunity size? • Heat exchanger market is expected to grow by 14.5% in the next 5-7 years, enabling efficient heating, cooling, & heat recovery • Current domestic production of copper tubes and coils can only meet ~40% of total demand. There is an estimated Rs 3,000-4,000 crore annual opportunity, purely in replacing imports with domestic manufacturing 》The opportunity is clear. The question remains whether KRN is ready to capture it at scale. **Six-fold capacity expansion** • KRN has recently finished a large greenfield expansion through its subsidiary, KRN HVAC Products Pvt Ltd, at Neemrana (Rajasthan) • The facility commenced commercial production on May 31, 2025 • Post commissioning, KRN's combined peak revenue potential stands at ~Rs 2,000 crore • Q2FY26 revenue already reflecting ~Rs 33 crore contribution from the new plant • The management has guided for 20–25% utilisation in FY26, improving to ~45–50% in FY27, with utilisation expected to reach ~85–95% by FY28 》How KRN is bracing for the opportunities? • KRN has a presence in over 14 export markets, focusing on expanding customer base, new markets, and reducing concentration risk • New facility expands KRN's portfolio into higher-value products such as Bar & Plate heat exchangers, Oil Cooling Units, and Microchannel heat exchangers, key for data centres and EV thermal management • KRN also plans to raise exports revenue from ~15% in H1FY26 to ~50% over the next two years by launching new products ☆ Entry into bus & railways segment • KRN has signed an agreement to acquire Sphere Refrigeration's Bus AC division (Oct-25), entering the ~Rs 1,000 crore bus AC market, which is growing at 20–25% YoY • Mass production is expected from January 2026 and here margins are slightly superior to the core business • Additionally, KRN has been approved as a vendor by the ministry of railways • Further, KRN's new manufacturing facility is eligible for a concessional corporate tax rate of 17.6%, which will reduce the consolidated tax rate 》Outlook and Valuation • KRN Heat Exchangers offers strong earnings visibility, with the Neemrana plant (May 2025) removing its key growth constraint and enabling a multi-year volume ramp-up • KRN's balance sheet remains strong, with negligible debt and healthy return ratios KRN commands a scarcity premium, with no direct listed peer At ~29× FY28 earnings, valuation appears to be at a premium, but, it remains supported by growth visibility, incentives, and the lack of listed substitutes

Energy Storage Battery Demand: India2030 ============================ According to NITI Aayog, the Indian government’s policy think tank, energy storage demand via batteries is projected to reach approximately 600 GWh by 2030. Of this, cumulative demand for batteries in electric mobility (EV) is estimated at around 381 GWh. Under the Indian Govt. FAME-II initiative, the government has set a target of 50 GWh of battery production by 2029 through the Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) scheme, with a focus on real value addition. This target highlights a substantial gap between projected demand and domestic supply, suggesting that battery cell imports will likely continue in the coming years. ⚡ Sector-Wide Energy Storage Battery Usage ---------------------------------------------------- India is actively deploying energy storage batteries across multiple sectors: (i) Electric vehicles (EVs) (ii) Grid applications (iii) Consumer electronics (iv) Behind-the-meter systems (e.g., UPS, rooftop solar) Current domestic energy storage cell production across all cell technologies is estimated at 38–49 GWh, majorly dominated by lead-acid batteries (~30–40 GWh) followed by primary batteries e.g., alkaline and zinc-carbon cells (~1.5–2.5 GWh) and other battery technology (Ni-MH cells etc.). Current Battery Landscape in India -------------------------------------- India’s EV ecosystem currently relies on a mix of cell technologies, including: (i) Lead-acid cells (3W) (ii) Nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) cells (Hybrid vehicle) (iii) Lithium-ion cells (2W, 3W, 4W) Most of these cells are imported. Globally, battery consumption in EV sector reached to 950 GWh in 2024, and is expected to triple to 3 TWh by 2030 (as per IEA). In comparison, India’s EV battery consumption stands at 13 GWh at end of 2024, which is distributed as follows: Passenger vehicles (60%), two-wheelers (25%), and three-wheelers (15%) approx. The Indian market is dominated by lithium-ion batteries, which account for approximately 75% of total EV battery consumption. Emerging Technologies & Future Outlook ---------------------------------------------- Sodium-ion batteries are gaining attention as a potential competitor to existing technologies, depending on their Technology Readiness Level progression. All existing battery technologies are expected to face intense competition, driven by: ø Technological innovation ø Cost efficiency ø Material availability It seems, EVs will likely remain the primary driver of battery demand, with lithium-ion continuing to lead the market. Indian Railways got a massive technology upgrade, which you must know. Siemens built a 9000-horsepower electric locomotive that does the work of two traditional engines. Here's why this matters: It can run at 120 km/h, pulling 5,800 tons, which is equivalent to one engine replacing what used to require two 6,000 HP locomotives coupled together. 1,200 of these locomotives can replace 800,000 truck trips, saving over 800 million tons of CO2 emissions. But the real shift is that every single one of these locomotives has Siemens Railigent X AI built in, doing fault detection and predictive maintenance in real-time. And Siemens has worked on these four incredible projects: Project 1: USBRL (Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link) - connecting Kashmir through the most challenging terrain on the planet. They electrified a 42 km section, including India's longest railway tunnel (12.8 km). Project 2: India's first ETCS (European Train Control System) Level 2, a globally proven signalling standard, deployment for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail. This technology enables trains to actively communicate with tracks and central control, managing human errors far more efficiently. Project 3: CBTC (Communication-Based Train Control), which helps trains communicate and know the exact position of every other train and maintain perfect safety distances automatically. Siemens has deployed this on Kolkata's Purple Line, covering 48 kilometres and 36 stations. Project 4: Cybersecurity - With the help of AI, IoT (Internet of Things) and cybersecurity, Siemens also aims to reduce downtime, increase system availability and boost signalling infrastructure. An intriguing Cybersecurity story is from Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, where Siemens delivered a remote diagnostic and predictive maintenance system for Indian Railways. With real-time diagnostics and proactive system monitoring, CyberSecure, the monitoring system, augments the security and reliability of railway operations. The best part? All of this is built in India by Indian engineers. True fast charging needs DC supply using CCS2 connectors, now standard for Indian EVs. For example, a 𝐌𝐚𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐚 𝐁𝐄.𝟔 (79 kWh) charges in ~32 min on a 150 kW CCS2(Combined Charging System Type 2), while a 𝐊𝐢𝐚 𝐄𝐕𝟔 (84 kWh) can charge in ~24 min on a 350 kW unit — showing the need for higher connector capacity in Indian vehicles. Other area were India lacked is the 𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. So, I used a genetic algorithm to optimize the location of charging location, I analyzed 25 major cities to find 5 optimal clusters that: Minimized intra-cluster distance (cities close together) and also Maximized inter-cluster distance (better national coverage) These clusters city point provide an efficient roadmap for early fast-charging grid deployment for startups. Next, I’m working to include population density and traffic congestion data (via Google Maps API) for a more realistic, human-centric optimization.
