I'm leaving with my heart full and my mind energized with fresh ideas that I'm excited to bring back to our chapter and put into action. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who dedicated their time, expertise, and passion to making this such an impactful event. Cathy Brovelli liked thisCathy Brovelli liked thisHi LinkedIn network! I’m delighted to announce… …that I am back at home after a grueling few weeks of travel to various lake, river, and beach houses. 🏖️ In this new "role," I’ve successfully hit my Q3 deliverables: reading 3 books, completing jigsaw puzzles and coloring pages, and increasing my daily step count and hours slept. I am tan, relaxed, and my cup is full from time with family and friends. Joking aside, that is the focus for me this summer. At the end of June, I wrapped up a fast-paced 2.5+ years at Tricentis. I’m grateful to Jennifer (Alessandra) Lucas for the opportunity and partnership, and to the many colleagues I learned from along the way. I decided the timing was right to take an intentional pause—both personally (to spend time with my youngest before she heads to college) and professionally (to be thoughtful about my next chapter). I know I'm fortunate to have the space to do this, and I don't take it for granted. If you know me, though, you know sitting still is a temporary state of mind. I've also been keeping busy by: * UPSKILLING: Diving into a 5-week AI for HR Professionals course and building my own agents * CATCHING UP: Digging into a backlog of saved articles, podcasts, and webinars * CONNECTING: Engaging (or re-engaging) in virtual communities such as CareerXroads, Now to Next , and Resourcing Leaders (via the The Recruitment Events Co.) I'm also having some exciting conversations about what’s next. 🚀 In the immortal words of Ferris Bueller: "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." If you have time to connect for a call or virtual coffee this summer, I’d love to catch up!

Cathy Brovelli liked thisMelissa's post really resonated with me because I had almost this exact conversation yesterday. People often say, to me, "You work in HR, you must really love people." My answer is always a little different. I believe I understand people. And I understand business. More importantly, I understand how people power business. People are humans first. They happen to come to work every day. The role of HR isn't simply to advocate for people or protect the business. It's to navigate the intersection of both. That's where great organizations are built. Sometimes that means helping leaders unlock full potential of their teams. Sometimes it means making incredibly difficult decisions. But even those moments should be handled with dignity, transparency, and respect for the individual. One of the most important values I learned during my years at Accenture was that how you treat people, especially on their hardest days, defines your leadership far more than how you treat them when things are going well. When we get that balance right, we create organizations where people can thrive, and businesses do too. Thanks, Melissa, for sharing a perspective that reflects why so many of us chose this profession.Cathy Brovelli liked thisConfession: I didn't get into People because I love people. Sacrilege, right? Not exactly. The origin story is supposed to be "I just love helping people." Even though there's truth to that, it's only a tiny portion of my reality. I got into this work because it's the hardest, most dynamic seat in the business. Nothing stays solved. The org you designed in January is wrong by June. The comp philosophy that worked at 100 people breaks at 500. The moment you think you understand your culture, you hire 30 people and it shifts under your feet. Every People decision sits at the intersection of psychology, revenue, law, and strategy. You're reading a P&L in the morning and navigating a founder conflict by noon. No two days repeat. No playbook survives contact. That's what I love. Not people in the abstract. The problem. And honestly, I think that's what makes a strong People leader. The ones who love the complexity treat People work as business work. Headcount as capital. Attrition as margin. Performance as a revenue conversation. The ones who lead with "I just love people" many times struggle when the job requires decisions that people don't love. Caring about people and loving people problems are not the same thing. You need the first to be trusted. You need the second to be good. So here's my question for the People leaders reading this: what actually keeps you in this seat? The people, or the puzzle?

Cathy Brovelli liked thisCathy Brovelli liked thisTwenty years ago, Cory Boatwright walked into a bus stop at Kunsan Air Base in South Korea. Our whole unit was there to greet him, which was a tradition when a new member arrived. I knew I was in trouble. What followed was not a love story that felt inevitable. It was one we built, slowly, deliberately, across two and a half years of long distance, deployments, multiple duty stations, career changes, and more time zones than I can count. We've been all over the world apart and together. People look at us now and think it was foretold. That we were always going to end up here. The truth is messier and better than that. Long distance will either end a relationship or build something unshakeable. For us, it built a communication foundation we still draw on twenty years later. You can't give someone the silent treatment when they're not in the same room (well, I supposed you can, but it’s not nearly as gratifying). You learn to say the hard things. What I couldn't have known when I watched him walk into that bus stop in that gray zip up jacket was that twenty years later we'd still be doing things our way. Building things nobody expected. Charting a course that's entirely our own. Twenty years of building a life with my favorite person. The scrapbook that our friend Kirby made us as a wedding gift still puts a smile on my face. Here's to twenty more, Babe. 💙 #MilitaryCouple #Partnership #Gratitude #Adulting #Joy
