I am fortunate to have worked alongside Charlotte Beard and Kristen Ilgenstein to grow our finance & accounting team from 2 to 30+ exceptionally talented colleagues. Over this time, we stood-up a battery factory in West Virginia, raised over $1.5B in funding, got a world-changing battery technology to market, and built the finance engine to enable the next phase of scale-up. It’s an exciting time for Form, and I can't wait to see what comes next. I am deeply grateful to Charlotte for her generous mentorship, Mateo Jaramillo for the opportunity, and the Form executive team and investors for being wonderful partners. Most of all, thank you to my dedicated and talented team. I have learned so much from each of one of you. We accomplished a lot together. As for what's next - I'm taking a few months to recharge and reconnect with friends & colleagues before jumping back in. I leave Form feeling emboldened, and am more optimistic than ever about the future of energy.

Shayle Kann liked thisA great episode of Catalyst, one of the clearest supply-side maps I've seen of the AI power scramble. Jeremie Eliahou Ontiveros and Shayle Kann on the tiering of behind-the-meter generation (aeroderivatives, reciprocating engines, fuel cells), the shift from self-build to leasing, and Google's backstop-and-TPU flywheel with Anthropic. What stayed with me is that the through-line is financial, not physical. So much of what they describe (credit profiles, investment grade, backstops, binding versus non-binding contracts, ballooning interconnection deposits) comes down to who can underwrite the commitment, not who can pour the concrete. Demand-side flexibility also never came up, and it sits on the sidelines for the same reason clean firm does here: the contract and financing layer hasn't been built. The market's current answer (bilateral, behind-the-meter, deal-by-deal) buys speed at the cost of durability. It works unless/until cost allocation, community acceptance, capacity markets, or permitting catch up.

Yesterday, the Coalition for Community Solar Access (CCSA) and Synapse Energy Economics released their report "Sunlight and Storage Into Savings” – a groundbreaking report that quantifies the systemwide utility bill savings that scaling up distributed solar + storage deployment will deliver to New Yorkers. By deploying 20 gigawatts of distributed solar and 3.7 gigawatts of distributed energy storage by 2035– all New York ratepayers will save $1 billion annually by lowering wholesale energy prices. Avoided carbon emissions costs come to $947 million– an added benefit to all New Yorkers. By passing the Accelerate Solar for Affordable Power (ASAP) Act we can lock in these energy savings. The ASAP Act would give our state a statutory mandate to reach a 20 gigawatt goal by 2035– a mandate that will save New Yorkers $1 billion a year. This is not a time for inaction. PJM released the results of its annual capacity bidding process yesterday and the results were, as expected, higher energy prices. The final numbers came in at $329.17 per megawatt day, a 22% increase over 2024 which was an 800% increase from 2023. 2026 Stanford Emerging Technology Review tackles energy technology and policy While energy demand is projected to grow 50% by 2050, the fundamental "trilemma" persists: no single energy source perfectly balances reliability, affordability, and cleanliness, according to the report’s chapter on energy. Despite renewable growth, hydrocarbons still supplied 86% of global primary energy in 2024. Recent electrical demand has risen more than 2% annually for three years, driven by data centers, AI, cryptocurrency, EVs, and industrial reshoring. Forecasts predict 16-25% growth over the next five years, so a jump to around 3% to 5% a year. This has prompted investment shifts from intermittent renewables toward natural gas, nuclear, and energy storage. Nuclear capacity is projected to triple by 2050, though supply chain vulnerabilities exist. Promising technologies the chapter reviews include iron-air batteries for long-duration storage, improved EV batteries with faster charging, green hydrogen production, enhanced geothermal energy, small modular nuclear reactors with passive safety systems, and nuclear fusion (though commercial viability remains decades away). U.S. energy policy has shifted dramatically toward prioritizing abundance and reliability over rapid decarbonization, with reduced support for wind and solar but increased backing for nuclear, geothermal, and natural gas. Critical supply chain challenges persist, particularly regarding Chinese-controlled lithium and critical minerals essential for sustainable technologies. SNE Research projects North America's Energy Storage System (ESS) demand to remain structurally robust, driven by grid-scale deployments and increasing AI data-center power needs. Despite strong demand, SNE's analysis indicates that supply constraints will lead to a temporary market contraction from 2025–2027. This is partly due to regulatory restrictions and supply limitations impacting Chinese battery imports, which supplied approximately 65 GWh to North America in 2024, leading to delays or cancellations of many projects from 2025. Consequently, SNE anticipates a significant shift in supply composition, with Korean battery makers' share of the North America ESS market potentially rising to approximately 87% by 2027 as localized capacity increases. The transition to LFP chemistry and prismatic form factors, preferred for ESS, is expected to be gradual as Korean manufacturers adapt existing EV-oriented production lines. SNE estimates that locally produced ESS container systems will reach comparable costs to imports from 2026, with cost advantages widening thereafter.
