Chicagoans and Cubs fans were invited to celebrate Southwest officially calling dibs on becoming the official airline partner of the Chicago Cubs. Leaning into the city’s dibs tradition, Southwest brought Opening Day energy to January by planting an oversized airline seat in front of the iconic marquee. Fans made their way through a jet bridge tunnel and were welcomed with Southwest’s signature in-flight hospitality, calling dibs on exclusive swag, snapping photos in the oversized seat, enjoying free ice skating, and meeting Cubs legends like Pete Crow-Armstrong and Pat Hughes. The result was pure joy at the Friendly Confines, setting the tone for what’s ahead.

Because, at the intersection technology, behavior, and culture is a landscape that keeps brands on their toes. For brands – whether breaking into a category, starting a new category, or reminding the market it leads one – it’s critical to be focused. Without focus even the biggest comms budget won’t chart a path to sustained success. Focus translates to dynamic growth, disciplined agility, and influence amplification. Here’s an example of a communications methodology that achieves this: - Define the challenge, the opportunity, or the truth, and ensure that is steeped in business potential. If you don’t define it, how can buyers know what it is? - Design narratives and stories that bring it to life and make the technology understandable or the solution irresistible. What makes your business the choice? - Deliver that message, using a wide array of earned, owned, paid, and influence channels to create impact. Who needs to hear it and how do you reach them? - Demonstrate business outcomes that matter, beyond impressions. How can showing the true extent of comms earn you a rightful place at the table? I’ve seen this structure underpin award-winning programs at Racepoint Global and unlock value for our clients at all different stages of maturity.
